Metalphoto Technology: The Science Behind High-Quality, Durable Nameplates and Labels

 · 2 min read

In today's world, nameplates and labels play an important role in providing identification and information about products, equipment, and machinery. However, not all nameplates and labels are created equal. Some are more durable and resistant to harsh environments than others. That's where metalphoto technology comes in.

Metalphoto technology is a specialized type of printing process that uses photosensitive anodized aluminum to create high-quality, durable nameplates and labels. The process starts with a piece of unsealed anodized aluminum, which is impregnated with a photosensitive silver-halide. This raw material is then selectively exposed to UV light under vacuum, using a negative film of the desired image. The plate is then further processed to achieve a corrosion resistant black image, which is entirely pure metallic silver.

Metalphoto processing consists of the following steps:

  1. Exposure: Selective exposure to light is the foundation upon which durable Metalphoto images are created. When a Metalphoto plate is exposed to light, what is actually occurring is the activation of light-sensitive material contained within the pores of the aluminum.
  2. Zip processing: After a Metalphoto plate has been exposed or activated, the image is developed and fixed by means of Zip Processing. Image development occurs when the rolls of a Zip Processor apply developer to an active Metalphoto plate. Image fixing occurs when the rolls of the Zip Processor apply fixer to the plate.
  3. Sealing the Aluminum: The final step in the Metalphoto production process is perhaps the most crucial in terms of creating a long lasting and durable plate. After zip processing, the aluminium plate is boiled in distilled water to close open pores of the anodized layer and trap the silver image inside.

The result of this process is a high-quality, durable nameplate or label that can withstand harsh environments, extreme temperatures, and exposure to chemicals and solvents.

Metalphoto nameplates and labels are commonly used in a variety of industries, including aerospace, military, medical, industrial, and commercial applications.

There are several benefits to using metalphoto technology for nameplates and labels. First, the process produces high-quality, detailed images that are resistant to fading and wear. Second, the anodized aluminum provides excellent resistance to corrosion and abrasion, which means the nameplate or label will last longer in harsh environments. Finally, metalphoto technology offers a wide range of customization options, including different shapes, sizes, colors, and finishes, making it easy to create unique and customized nameplates and labels for any application.
